What is Assessment?

Our assessment process shows your original work to a team of merchandising specialists, who are knowledgeable about your type of product and who have experience in marketing products similar to yours. The judging criteria will be based on the following categories:

Design: originality/creativity, use of colour and suitability of materials to design.
Workmanship: technical capabilities, attention given to details such as glueing, stitching, painting, glazing, staining, etc.
Saleability: consumer mass appeal and pricing. Please ensure you enclose your wholesale and retail pricing structure.
Promotional Material: labelling, packaging, business cards, letterhead, invoices etc.

How to Apply:

  • Call our office at 204-784-8263 to obtain your Entry Number.
  • Send one to three pieces of your best work to our assessment panel for judging. If you are interested in taking part in the Virtual Gift Show you should include an electronic file with pictures of your products that you wish to be included online an in the annual printed Catalogue for buyers. 
  • Include a sample of all available business materials such as business card, price lists, order forms, letterhead, brochures, etc.
  • Provide a letter describing your work and your products. At this time, you may wish to begin to develop an Artist's Statement detailing experience, awards received for work, participation in other shows/fairs, list of present buyers, etc.  Check out other Artist Statements on  

our website  Use this opportunity to seek advice or ideas from the  panel regarding any problems or challenges you may be currently facing in your business.

  • Include a product and producer description (this will be used in the our Annual Catalogue.  Your statement must be 50 words or less to fit the space limit. Example: Patricia's hand-built pottery masks, vases, hats and plates are truly unique. Her earth tones blend in well with any decor. A self-taught potter, Patricia's original designs have won awards and have been featured on CBC's "Monday Magazine."
  • Enclose a cheque in the amount of $84.00 made payable to Uniquely Manitoba. ($80.00 (plus 5% GST - $4.00) TOTAL: $84.00)

 What you will receive:

  1. Written feedback from the panel with advice, ideas and suggestions for improvement.
  2. Business Basics manual.
  3. Opportunities to attend marketing seminars and information sessions to help make any trade show experience a rewarding one.
  4. An opportunity to have a picture and brief description of your product included in the annual Catalogue and displayed on our Virtual Gift Show.
